Be SMART About Your Summer and Ride FAST

July 8, 2021 Detroit, MI – FAST, the limited-stop bus service powered by SMART, is still running strong and serving as a connection between the suburbs and downtown for your summer destinations – quickly and safely. FAST services run along three busy corridors in the region, Gratiot, Woodward, and Michigan Avenues.

FAST, which launched in 2018, has provided service throughout the pandemic. However, as restrictions are lifting, SMART wants to remind residents they can ditch driving and Ride FAST. All three FAST routes will connect riders to downtown Detroit making it easy to access Ford Field, Comerica Park, and Little Caesars Arena.

In addition to sporting events, keep FAST in mind for future events in and around Detroit, like the Jazz Festival downtown at Hart Plaza and Campus Martius areas later this summer. FAST gives riders access to downtown restaurants and hot spots like Beacon Park, Midtown and the Historic Eastern Market. Not only does the Eastern Market host the well-known Saturday market but there are unique events like the upcoming Detroit Festival of Books – which is taking place on July 18th from 10 AM – 4 PM.

All FAST buses are equipped with free Wi-Fi to make the ride more enjoyable.  Not only can riders continue their work on-board with the available Wi-Fi, but have access to local transit services including the new SMART Flex on-demand service. Other connections include MoGo bike share, DDOT routes, or the QLINE to complete your trip!

SMART fare is $2.00 each way with a variety of convenient ways to pay your fare, including the Dart mobile app.  Reduce fare options are also available for those who are eligible.

For an extra layer of safety while paying and to help keep both riders and drivers protected, safety shields have been installed at the fare box and hand sanitizer is available at the front and rear of the bus. All SMART buses undergo regular and nightly cleaning and sanitization. As required by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) all riders are still required to wear a mask when riding SMART, regardless of vaccination status.
